This Annie Lennox song Universal Child is my favourite song at the moment. Lovely lyrics which reminds me of my visit to Beautifal Gate childrens care home in Lesotho earlier this year.

Drive through shopping - what a great idea

I hope Tesco's new online shopping trial is a success and it is rolled out to my local town.

How to Keep Young

I don't always read emails with attachments, but I received one from a good friend in Canada that caught my eye.  You might have seen it already, it is titled Reflections and talks through the ages of life and tips on how to keep you.

Four tips that caught my eye are:

  • keep cheerful friends
  • keep learning
  • enjoy simple things
  • surround yourself with what you love

These are so true in my life.  What are your tips to keep young?

The Starfish Story

One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean. Approaching the boy, he asked, “What are you doing?”

The youth replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out.  If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.”

“Son,” the man said, “don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can’t make a difference!”

What are your life values?

A good work colleague attended his friends funeral recently and his daughters read out a long list of values as part of his eulogy - "What my Father Taught me".  My colleague commented that they were a wonderful set of guiding principles and values – not only for bringing up children, but also for life.

I reviewed the long list and after some deep thought, I chose my top five.
